RYOTETORI
KOKYUNAGE
Ryotetori is an attack grabbing the victim's
both hands at once.
Kokyunages require exact timing with the
movement of the attacker to execute properly.
In the graphic, the nage waits till the attacker
has commited action to charging and grabbing wrists. When the assailant is close enough,
the victim leads the assailant's offensive movement by dropping backwards and down, in the
same direction as his initial move. Note the circular motion that both individuals take in
this encounter. This is typical Aikido movement.
Note, when this action was filmed the uke had no
idea what action the nage was going to take in defense.
Please be patient, the animated
gif below will take time to download through your browser.
