Kokyu Ho Undo
Tenkan Exercise - Paired Practice
Kokyu Ho Undo exercise in
paired practice prepares both uke and nage to move actively around each other in united
momentum. This is the "aiki". The uke attacks the nage by grabbing his
wrist. The nage responds by pivoting on the side of the uke. The stance of the nage will
be the same stance as the uke. They will be side by side. The uke responds by stepping
forward, turning towards the victim and attacking again.
Note that the closer the nage is to the
attacker after the pivot, the safer it is for the nage.

Kokyu ho undo / Tenkan Exercise is
an essential and basic movement of Aikido.
